I usually take the one that gets me more money from rum for instance, because it is quite lucrative. There are also certain perks you get when making your avatar that can increase profits from tourism, rum, etc. The thing is that cash crops don't make much money, but they are excellent source material to be refined into things that do. Salt mines will never run out, but they take up a lot more space than a normal mine it has to make more money than simple cash crops and it has to do some effectively. The problem with mines is that they will eventually run out, i tend not to get into mining and if you want to use factories you can do that, but consider how many more people need a basic wage, how much the building costs per, and what exactly you will be producing from it. you wouldn't want several offices in town and waiting for teamsters to come out and collect the goods and go back, it can take a long time, especially if most of them are busy. Teamsters transport goods around the island, if you plan on setting up away from town, you will need a teamsters office out in the area you are working. How many teamsters offices do you have set up? farms plantations and ranches aren't the best way to make money compared to mining and industry or tourism. The further you put your farms out more you need to put down other things like flats, markets, health care, garbage pit and what not nearby to make sure everyone has something and there are none of those hideous corrigated shacks around.īest way to keep the population in check is building a customs office and specifying if you want specific allow anyone, skilled workers or no immigration. your typical cash crops can be sold as is when you got enough farms, but always make sure to keep an eye on your population, how much food there is, any specific demands and so on.
